The context
Semisto trains food forest designers, designs forest gardens and propagates rare plants in its nursery school. Its previous website, built on a no-code service, couldn't keep up: slow, single-language, hard to edit, and invisible to search engines.
The need
A fast, beautiful, bilingual website the non-technical team can edit themselves — without losing accumulated SEO: 171 URLs from the old site to redirect cleanly.
The solution
A fully static Astro 5 site, generated from typed content collections: courses, projects, articles, team, events — editable in Markdown or through a visual CMS. The custom design system declines about forty components in Semisto's colours. French and English are bilingual by construction, every page in both languages. On the SEO side: JSON-LD structured data, a 301 redirect table from the old site, and even a build-time llms.txt for AI search engines. Everything is verified in CI on every commit and deployed automatically to the association's VPS.
The result
A site that loads instantly, reads in two languages, updates without a developer — and finally tells Semisto's mission at the scale it deserves: turning Europe into food forests.
